Journal of Critical Realism in Socio-Economics (JOCRISE) was established in 2022 by Universitas Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA Gontor), Indonesia, under the editorial leadership of Professor Dr. Masudul Alam Choudhury, International Chair of the Postgraduate Program in Islamic Economics and Finance, Faculty of Economics, Trisakti University, Jakarta. The journal was founded to provide a dedicated scholarly platform for the emerging field of Critical Realism applied to socio-economics: an interdisciplinary domain examining the integration of moral and material dimensions of socio-scientific inquiry, grounded in the epistemology of Unity of Knowledge.
Timeline of Development
- 2022: Inaugural issue published: 1 No. 1, "Critical Realism: Paradigm Shifts." JOCRISE registered its Print ISSN (2964-2930) and Electronic ISSN (2964-3317) with the ISSN International Centre.
- 2022–2023: JOCRISE established its international Editorial Advisory Board, bringing together scholars from Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kazakhstan, several of whom hold active Scopus Author IDs.
- 2023: JOCRISE achieved a consistent quarterly publication schedule (January, April, July, October) and adopted the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform for full editorial workflow management, including double-blind peer review.
- 2024: The journal formalized its Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement in accordance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines, and integrated Turnitin plagiarism screening into its editorial process.
- 2024–2025: JOCRISE joined the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), utilizing LOCKSS technology for distributed, long-term digital preservation of all published content, in addition to maintaining independent local and offsite backups.
- 2025: JOCRISE indexing presence expanded to include Garuda (Kemdiktisaintek), Google Scholar, and Scilit.
- 2026: JOCRISE adopted a comprehensive Generative AI and AI-Assisted Tools Policy governing the responsible use of AI by authors, reviewers, and editors, and formally applied for evaluation by the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB).
Current Status
As of 2026, JOCRISE has published continuously and without interruption for four consecutive years (Vol. 1 No. 1 through Vol. 4 No. 3), maintaining its quarterly frequency throughout. The journal continues to be led by Professor Dr. Masudul Alam Choudhury as Editor-in-Chief, supported by Prof. Dr. Akhmad Affandi Mahfudz as Executive Editor and an international Editorial Advisory Board of over 25 scholars across 13 countries.
